Barflies and Battered Hopes

The neon signs flicker/glow/pulsate, casting a sickly light on the faces around/gathered/pressed inside. The air is thick with the scent/a haze of/cheap perfume and stale beer, a mixture that clings to/haunts/sticks to you long after you've left. Every cough, every chattering laugh/raucous joke/whispered secret, tells a story of dreams deferred/lost chances/wishes turned to dust. Some come here to escape the day/drown their sorrows/pretend they're somewhere else. But at some point, the music stops and the lights go down, and all that's left is the bitter aftertaste/the cold hard truth/a hollow feeling in your gut.

It's a lonely/familiar/vicious cycle. You seek solace/find comfort/lose yourself in the bottom of a glass, hoping for a moment of forgetfulness. But the memories linger/return/crash down like a rogue wave, pulling you under once more. The bar becomes a refuge/a trap/a graveyard of broken promises/hearts/dreams. And as you stumble out into the night, you know that tomorrow will bring more of the same/another chance/the painful sting of reality.

Solid Divides , Shattered Lives
